AIL has been promoting and supporting scientific research for the treatment of leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. The organisation fulfils the task of assisting patients and their families, accompanying them in all phases of the long and often suffered path of the disease, offering them services, knowledge and understanding and fighting alongside them to improve their quality of life and support them in the complex path of care.

Some of the activities AIL are involved with include:

• Providing assistance to patients and their families
• Promoting training and professional updating for physicians, biologists, nursing and laboratory staff
• Contributing to the costs of haematology and stem cell transplant units
• Finance GIMEMA, a non-profit research cooperative group based on 140 Hematology Centres across Italy which guarantee all patients with blood cancer a fast and clear diagnosis, together with the best available treatments.
