CLL HORIZONS CONFERENCE

CLL Horizons 2024 has concluded successfully in Barcelona!

The CLL Advocates Network (CLLAN) Steering Committee successfully held the 5th International CLL Horizons Conference from September 27 to 29 in the vibrant city of Barcelona, Spain. This hybrid event attracted participants both in person – 85 delegates from 41 countries – and virtually, fostering a global dialogue on chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).

The conference featured a variety of comprehensive workshops and sessions aimed at enhancing participants’ skills and knowledge.

Expert-led medical discussions provided insights from leading hematologists and supportive care specialists. Participants explored crucial topics, including CLL diagnosis, active monitoring, personalised treatment approaches, and updates on the latest research studies. Panel discussions examined the current treatment landscape of CLL, focusing on first-line treatments, re-treatment options, and new frontiers in CLL research.

The agenda featured an esteemed faculty of speakers, including prominent advocates and clinical experts from around the globe. Notable speakers included Prof Anna Schuh (UK), Prof Arnon Kater (NL), Prof Barbara Eichhorst (DE), Prof Florence Cymbalista (FR), Prof Norah Akinola (NG), Dr Miguel Pavlovsky (AR), Prof Kostas Stamatopoulos (EL), Prof Paolo Ghia (IT), Dr Lydia Scarfo (IT), Prof Tahla Munir (UK), Prof William Wierda (US) and Dr Christina Karamanidou (EL), who shared their expertise relevant to advocacy and CLL support developments.

Networking opportunities flourished throughout the event, allowing advocates, experts, and healthcare professionals to connect. The CLL Horizons 2024 Grand Opening included welcome remarks, a reflection on the past decade since the inception of CLLAN in 2014, and updates on CLLAN projects and strategic plans going forward. A dedicated poster presentation session showcased innovative research and projects from peers, providing a platform for engaging discussions about their findings and implications for patient advocacy and care.

The conference also emphasised best practices, encouraging participants to share their CLL support and advocacy initiatives.
